Columbia College in Chicago has centers at locations all over the city that provide students enrolled in the film program with cameras, lights and sound equipment for on-location shooting. The school’s huge media center also provides two soundstages, a motion-capture studio, three professional television studios, and editing suites which students can freely use to hone their skills. With opportunities to study in Los Angeles for a semester at Raleigh Studios, students will be able to spend time in Hollywood during their studies too, bringing them closer to the heart of the industry.
Columbia College also hosts guest speakers including former graduate, Christian Sprenger, who won an Emmy Award for his work as a cinematographer on Atlanta. Other notable alumni of Columbia College include writer, producer and actress Lena Waithe, Men of Honor director George Tillman Jr. and Vice President of Production at Sony Pictures, Bryan Smiley. Smiley claims that the school excels in teaching how to navigate between the art and business sides of the industry, something that is vital for aspiring film talent.
