Film Independent is the community responsible for the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Spirit Awards. Their 2 month Directing Lab program supports Indie film directors entering the ‘prep’ phase on their feature films. With direction and guidance from industry professionals serving as our advisors, Directing Lab Fellows get professional script feedback, discussions of their vision and have short scenes from their project used in workshops. Directors then go through the casting process, commence scene rehearsals in the Lab, finally moving on to production. Shooting resources provided by Directing Lab include lighting, grip, sound packages and a digital camera to capture the scene.
As part of our process, Directing Lab Fellows are offered access to professional cinematographers, editors, and casting directors who work hand in hand as collaborative consultants to mentor Fellows. Our 8-week program runs April to June allowing participants the opportunity to learn the intricacies of production, from pre to post. Projects are then screened for advisors and fellow participants. Film Independent seeks to build an inclusive industry that addresses diversity and gender representation. We are committed to making sure that diverse creators continue to remain engaged in producing impactful storytelling.
We are open to directors involved in feature length, unproduced narrative film, director/writers and teams, seeking to produce their projects. Applicants from all over the world are eligible to apply. At the moment, shorts, television and documentary projects are not eligible.Click Here For More Information!
